The Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN has renamed its permanent secretariat in honour of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, nearly three decades after operating without a dedicated administrative headquarters.

The National President of CAN, Daniel Okoh, officially declared open the building, now named “Senator Oluremi Tinubu CAN Lagos State Secretariat”, in Alausa, Ikeja, describing the achievement as a testament to the state chapter’s perseverance and commitment. He urged all members to remain united and dedicated to advancing Christian leadership in Lagos State.

A representative of the First Lady welcomed the unveiling, saying it ends years of dispute over the land and marks the beginning of a new chapter for Christians in Lagos State. One floor of the complex was also dedicated to Dr Oluwaseye Yomi Sholoye, founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries, in recognition of her substantial financial contribution. She described the secretariat as a “fit home” for Christian leadership, noting that it would elevate the work of God in the state.

The secretariat was completed under the chairmanship of Rt. Rev. S.T.V. Adegbite, with its foundation laid on February 17, 2024. Also in attendance were the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins, and clerics from various denominations.

The complex includes multiple structures named after notable personalities, including the main office block named after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Bishop Stephen Adegbite Hall and Event Centre, and the CAN Chairman’s office named after Senator Tokunbo Abiru. Adegbite described the facility as a symbol of unity and administrative strength, urging members to take ownership and ensure proper maintenance.

Since the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu in May 2023, other public institutions have also been named after the First Lady, including the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Renewed Hope Resettlement City in Keffi, Nasarawa State, the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and the Oluremi Tinubu Leather Hub in Lagos.

Following the commissioning, CAN Lagos held its 2026 Annual Interdenominational Divine Service themed “Immanuel: God With Us” at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Olorunda, Ketu, where Rev. Dr Ezekiel Omidina encouraged Christians to remain steadfast amid social and economic challenges, with prayers offered for peace, unity, and national development.
