16-year-old girl was on Monday arraigned before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged threat to the life of a 15-year-old girl following a dispute reportedly linked to a boyfriend.
The defendant, whose name was withheld because she is a minor, was charged with threat to life and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. Her residential address was not disclosed in open court. She pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Friday Mameh, told the court that the incident occurred on February 20, 2026, at about 9:00 p.m. at Khalakuta Jegba Quarters, Badagry, in Lagos State. He alleged that the defendant attempted to kill the complainant, also a minor, by using a razor blade to cut her face, thereby inflicting injuries.
According to the prosecution, the defendant accused the complainant of snatching her boyfriend and attacked her in a bid to force her to stay away from him. Mameh further told the court that the defendant’s actions caused panic in the area and were likely to disrupt public peace.
“The defendant used a razor blade to cut the face of the complainant so that she would leave her boyfriend for her,” the prosecutor said, adding that the suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.
He stated that the alleged offences contravened Sections 230 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, A. J. Aina, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. The magistrate ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 12.
The case was adjourned until March 30, 2026, for mention.
