A prominent leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kashim Imam, has announced the end of his 36-year political and personal relationship with Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria.
Imam, who serves as Chairman of ADC Membership Registration and Revalidation and North East ADC National Leader, made the declaration in a video statement circulated online. In the video, he said his decision to sever ties with the President was driven by conscience and religious conviction.
According to him, his long-standing alliance with Tinubu could no longer continue in the face of what he described as growing injustice under the current administration. He stated that his decision was guided by fear of God and a firm rejection of injustice, adding that he had never witnessed the level of injustice currently prevailing in Nigeria.
Imam openly criticised the administration, describing it as deeply unjust, and announced his support for Atiku Abubakar, whom he said represents a pathway toward justice and national rescue.
He further argued that Nigeria’s challenges are not rooted in a lack of resources but in poor leadership. According to him, the country is richly endowed, with every state possessing visible and hidden wealth. However, he maintained that injustice by leaders remains Nigeria’s greatest problem.
The ADC chieftain also downplayed the political influence of state governors, insisting that real power lies with ordinary Nigerians. He stressed that governors do not determine election outcomes, noting that the poor masses hold the votes and are becoming increasingly aware of leaders who truly represent their interests.
Imam concluded by expressing confidence that Nigerians would make the right choices in the next general elections, signalling what observers see as a significant political realignment ahead of future polls.
