The Kano State Censorship Board has ordered the immediate suspension of entertainment activities across Kano State for the duration of the Ramadan fasting period.
The directive was announced in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman. According to the statement, the order affects all entertainment venues and services, including event centres, gala houses, live performances, and DJ operations throughout the state.
The board stated that the suspension will take effect from 10.00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will remain in force until the end of the holy month. Authorities explained that the measure is intended to preserve the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan and ensure a calm and respectful environment for residents observing the fast.
Officials emphasized that the decision aligns with long standing cultural and religious practices in the state, where activities considered inconsistent with the solemnity of Ramadan are often restricted. The board appealed to entertainment operators and business owners to comply fully with the directive and support efforts to maintain peace during the sacred period.
The statement further noted that the ban will remain in place throughout the fasting season, while the date for reopening entertainment centres, particularly ahead of Eid celebrations, will be announced at a later time. Operators were urged to cooperate with enforcement teams and avoid actions that may violate the directive.
The board concluded by extending prayers for a peaceful and healthy Ramadan, expressing hope that residents will experience the fasting season in harmony and that the period will bring blessings, mercy, and prosperity to the state.
