The House of Representatives has raised concerns over a proposed ₦15.88 billion budget allocation for the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation, questioning the breakdown and justification for several line items.
During a budget defense session, lawmakers asked officials from the Auditor-General’s office to clarify spending on consultancy services, training programs, and capital projects. Some members argued that the office, which plays a key role in promoting transparency and accountability in public spending, must itself demonstrate strict fiscal discipline.
In response, representatives of the office said the funds would support efforts to digitize audit processes, improve staff capacity, and strengthen oversight of government ministries and agencies. The committee is expected to conduct further reviews before making a final recommendation on the allocation.
