KOGI STATE – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has launched a significant festive outreach programme, distributing over 2,000 bags of rice and essential supplies across her constituency.
The initiative, confirmed in a statement on Wednesday by her media aide, Mike Idoko, targeted five key Local Government Areas (LGAs): Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okene, Okehi, and Ogori-Magongo. The exercise was designed to alleviate the financial pressure caused by soaring food inflation, ensuring residents can mark the Christmas period with dignity.
A Commitment to Grassroots Support
Speaking on the motivation behind the scheme, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasised that leadership should result in practical improvements to the lives of citizens.
“Christmas embodies love and shared joy,” the Senator remarked. “With many households currently grappling with the rising cost of living, it is vital that we offer tangible support. This distribution is about ensuring families across Kogi Central can enjoy the festivities without the shadow of hardship.”
The 25kg bags were allocated to a wide demographic, including:
-
Women’s and youth associations
-
Religious organisations and community groups
-
The elderly and vulnerable residents
Local leaders have lauded the scale of the intervention. A traditional authority in Okene described the effort as one of the most substantial festive distributions the region has seen, noting that its “far-reaching” nature demonstrated a genuine commitment to the grassroots.
A Record of Service
This latest outreach follows a string of previous developmental projects spearheaded by the Senator, ranging from healthcare and education to solar infrastructure and water provision. During a visit to beneficiaries in Okehi, she reiterated that her role extends far beyond the Senate floor, stating that true representation requires active listening and swift action.
Legal Developments in the Senate
The humanitarian effort coincides with ongoing legal complexities regarding the Senator’s status. Reports indicate that Senate President Godswill Akpabio has approached the Supreme Court regarding the legal dispute surrounding her suspension.
This move follows a December 1st court filing, which surfaced after the Court of Appeal in Abuja struck out the Federal Government’s brief of argument. The appellate court ruled the brief “incompetent” due to a failure to adhere to mandatory procedural and formatting rules.
