Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has declared herself the President General of the Single Mothers Association, using the moment to challenge long-held stereotypes surrounding single motherhood.
The actress made the announcement during fellow actress Lola Alao’s birthday celebration, a moment that has since gained widespread attention on social media.
In a video from the event, Iyabo Ojo said the stigma traditionally attached to being a single mother was fading, noting that many single mothers and their children are thriving across different sectors of society.
She added that attitudes have shifted significantly, with men increasingly showing respect and interest in single mothers, whom she described as experienced and confident. According to her, single mothers should no longer feel diminished by relationship breakdowns, stressing that rejection by one partner does not define a woman’s worth.
Concluding her remarks, Iyabo Ojo proudly reaffirmed her new role, describing it as a symbol of empowerment and solidarity for single mothers.
