The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reiterated that he has no regrets openly supporting President Bola Tinubu since 2022, saying criticisms and political attacks over his stance have never distracted him.
Wike spoke in Abuja in the early hours of Saturday during a special gathering held at his residence to mark his 58th birthday.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the former Rivers State governor said his support for Tinubu was consistent before, during, and after the 2023 presidential election and was based on principles of character, integrity, equity, and justice.
Wike recalled that he was the only prominent leader within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party at the time who openly declared support for Tinubu ahead of the polls, stressing that his decision was also guided by his belief that political power should shift to the South.
He noted that he never concealed his political choice and remained unapologetic about standing by what he believed was right, adding that his leadership strength was evident in Rivers State where the All Progressives Congress won the presidential election while the PDP secured victories in other major contests.
The event was attended by political leaders and associates across party lines, including National Assembly members, Rivers State lawmakers led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, local government chairmen, and long time allies.
In his remarks, Amaewhule pledged the continued loyalty of the lawmakers to Wike, while other speakers described him as a dependable and impactful leader.
Wike thanked his supporters for their loyalty and pledged to continue working with them in the interest of Rivers State and Nigeria.
