Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has revealed that Bola Tinubu has endorsed his governorship ambition for the 2027 Lagos election.
Hamzat made this known after a meeting between the President and the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressives Congress at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to him, the delegation—led by GAC Chairman Tajudeen Olusi—presented his candidacy to the President, who gave his approval.
He expressed gratitude for the endorsement, describing the GAC members as experienced leaders whose support strengthens his confidence.
Hamzat acknowledged the scale of the governorship role, calling it “audacious,” but said his experience as deputy governor under Babajide Sanwo-Olu has equipped him for the task.
He likened leadership to cooking, noting that understanding the system is as important as having the skills to lead.
The Villa meeting followed a wave of endorsements within 72 hours, including Sanwo-Olu’s public backing and the GAC’s unanimous adoption of Hamzat at a meeting in Lagos.
The 34-member council also resolved to purchase his N50 million nomination form in support of his ambition.
Despite the endorsements, Olusi stated that the party would still conduct primaries in line with APC guidelines to ensure fairness and internal democracy.
Hamzat, 59, has served as deputy governor since 2019 and previously held office as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure under former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
