The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a man dressed in police-branded clothing allegedly driving a commercial bus in Lagos and threatening passengers with violence.

The incident reportedly occurred near Eko Bridge in Lagos State and has since sparked public concern after the footage circulated widely on social media. In the video, the man—wearing what appeared to be a police T-shirt and cap—was seen arguing with passengers inside the bus.

Eyewitness accounts shared online claimed the situation escalated after passengers questioned an unscheduled stop made by the driver. According to one passenger, the driver threatened to kill them and dispose of their bodies in a river near Eko Bridge, a claim that intensified public outrage after the video went viral.

A passenger in the video could be heard saying, “You talk say you want to kill… you wan put us for water,” while others threatened to record the incident and share it online. The driver, in response, appeared defiant, saying “See my face,” as tensions rose inside the vehicle.

One social media user, Oyindamola, also alleged that the driver became aggressive after passengers questioned why they were dropped in the middle of the road without proper explanation, reportedly claiming he was going to buy fuel.

In response to the incident, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that it had begun reviewing the footage. The Force Public Relations team, through its New Media Officer, CSP Aliyu Giwa, stated that preliminary checks showed the individual was not in standard police uniform, but was wearing items marked “NPF/Police.”

He added that the man’s identity and whether he is a serving police officer are yet to be verified.

Giwa described the behaviour seen in the video as unprofessional and stressed that any conduct that threatens or intimidates citizens would not be tolerated by the police authorities. He further urged members of the public with useful information to assist in identifying the individual by reporting to the nearest police station or using official communication channels.

According to the police, the matter remains under investigation and appropriate disciplinary or legal action will be taken once the facts are established.
