A senior political figure within the opposition coalition has claimed that a possible presidential ticket involving former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso may not be strong enough to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or other emerging opposition platforms in the 2027 general elections.
The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, suggested that while the Obi–Kwankwaso alliance has generated significant political attention, it may struggle to overcome entrenched party structures and electoral dynamics ahead of the polls.
According to political analysts, discussions around a possible joint ticket under opposition platforms such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have continued to gain traction in recent months, with supporters viewing it as a major strategy to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s political dominance.
However, critics argue that internal disagreements, zoning considerations, and competition for party tickets among top aspirants could weaken the coalition’s chances if not properly managed.
The remarks add to ongoing debates about opposition unity ahead of 2027, as various political blocs continue negotiations aimed at forming a strong alliance against the ruling party.
As political realignments intensify, observers say the success or failure of any Obi–Kwankwaso arrangement will largely depend on unity, strategy, and the ability to mobilize nationwide support.
