A former member of the House of Representatives, Oghene Egoh, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as bold economic reforms and ongoing infrastructure development aimed at repositioning the country for long-term growth.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos on Sunday, Egoh said the administration has demonstrated commitment to national development through strategic projects and policy initiatives, particularly in the transport sector.

He highlighted the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a transformative initiative, noting that it would enhance connectivity along the coastline, boost tourism, and strengthen trade, including activities within the blue economy.

Egoh also praised the proposed Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, describing it as a critical project that would improve North-South trade, support agricultural logistics, and foster national integration.

According to him, progress on key routes such as the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway and the near completion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway reflect renewed focus on vital economic corridors.

He further referenced ongoing works on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and the expansion of the Bodo-Bonny Road, noting that both projects are improving the movement of goods and people across regions.

Egoh commended the adoption of reinforced concrete pavement for major highways, saying it would enhance durability, reduce maintenance costs, and ensure better value for public funds.

On the economy, the former lawmaker acknowledged that reforms such as fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange adjustments have posed short-term challenges but insisted they are necessary steps toward long-term stability.

“Economic reform is never easy, but courageous leadership requires difficult decisions. These policies are laying the foundation for a more stable and resilient economy,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to remain patient, expressing confidence that the benefits of the reforms and infrastructure investments would become more visible in the coming years.
