President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed confidence that democracy will endure in Nigeria despite prevailing challenges, while accusing opposition figures of undermining the very democratic values they claim to defend.

Speaking on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja while receiving a delegation from Enugu State led by Governor Peter Mbah, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to national development and unity.

“We will do everything to ensure that the Nigerian dream is realised. The hope you enunciated is not a pipe dream. It’s real and achievable, and we’ll achieve it together,” Tinubu said.

He stressed that democracy remains resilient despite criticism and political pressure. “Democracy will survive despite all intimidation. Ignore the naysayers. Stay focused. When you succeed and they are angry, let them be,” he added.

Tinubu dismissed criticisms from opposition leaders, accusing them of hypocrisy and failure in governance. He referenced past policies, particularly in the power sector, suggesting that previous administrations contributed to ongoing electricity challenges.

“These are leaders who had privatised electricity, which is not working. They gave us darkness, and we are trying to fix it. Yet, they do not even believe in the democracy they preach,” he said.

The President emphasized that his administration remains focused on improving the welfare and prosperity of Nigerians. According to him, criticism will not distract from efforts to build a better future for the country.

Highlighting Nigeria’s economic position, Tinubu described the country as a leading force in Africa, citing growth indicators and opportunities. He noted that progress is driven by collaboration across all levels of government.

“It’s not a one-man effort. It’s a collective responsibility involving federal, state, and local governments. We must all do more, especially at the grassroots level,” he stated.

Tinubu also commended Governor Mbah for strides in security, healthcare, education, and infrastructure development in Enugu State, noting that such efforts support national growth.

He concluded by appreciating the delegation’s support, adding that visible progress across states reinforces the impact of his administration’s reforms.
