The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has dismissed claims of an impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde, describing them as a “poorly written script” aimed at gaining public sympathy.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the party alleged that the narrative was designed to distract residents from more pressing issues and to create a favourable perception for the governor ahead of the 2027 elections.

The APC also rejected claims linking President Bola Tinubu and other prominent figures to the alleged impeachment move, insisting that such assertions were baseless and unsubstantiated.

According to the party, Makinde should have faced impeachment earlier over alleged misconduct, including claims of abuse of office since assuming power in 2019. It further argued that the governor’s political future was uncertain, suggesting he may struggle to maintain influence ahead of the next general elections.

The controversy comes amid heightened political tensions in the state, following allegations by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who accused Makinde of plotting to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja. Fayose claimed recent accusations against the monarch were part of a broader plan to justify such action.

However, members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have denied any involvement in an impeachment plot, distancing themselves from the claims and rejecting suggestions that external forces were influencing their actions.

The APC maintained that the impeachment narrative was an attempt to counter the allegations raised by Fayose, insisting that no credible effort was underway to remove the governor from office.

The party also levelled fresh accusations against Makinde, including alleged mismanagement of local government funds, land-related irregularities, and misuse of federal relief funds, warning that these issues could resurface in the future.
