The police authorities in Imo and Plateau states have ordered a complete ban on the sale, distribution, and use of fireworks and knockouts as the Christmas and New Year festivities draw closer. The commands said the measure is part of efforts to prevent fire outbreaks, injuries, and unnecessary disturbances commonly associated with pyrotechnics during the Yuletide season.

In a statement issued on Sunday and posted on X, the Imo State Police Command, through the Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, reaffirmed its enforcement of the ban, stressing that all categories of fireworks and pyrotechnic devices remain prohibited across the state. The command warned that anyone found selling, using, or possessing fireworks—whether during public holidays, community gatherings, or private events—would be arrested and prosecuted.

It further disclosed that police operatives would intensify patrols and carry out targeted operations to ensure strict compliance. The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies and promptly report any illegal sale or use of explosive devices. He commended the public for their continuous support in maintaining safety and assured that enhanced security arrangements have been deployed to guarantee a peaceful Yuletide season.

Similarly, the Plateau State Police Command on Saturday announced a statewide ban on the sale and use of fireworks and knockouts, reiterating that the restriction is necessary to preserve public safety and prevent security breaches during the festive period.
