Nigeria is facing a growing humanitarian challenge as escalating insecurity combines with rising food prices to create fears of a looming hunger catastrophe. Across several regions farmers are abandoning farmlands due to violent attacks and kidnappings.

In the North Central and Northwest food production has been severely disrupted by banditry while insurgency continues to affect agricultural communities in the Northeast.

The situation has contributed to sharp increases in food prices making basic staples unaffordable for millions of households.

Humanitarian agencies warn that without urgent intervention millions could face acute food insecurity in the coming months.

Security experts argue that restoring peace in farming communities is critical to stabilising food supply. They stress that military action alone is insufficient without addressing poverty unemployment and rural development.

Government officials say efforts are underway to secure farmlands and support displaced farmers but civil society groups insist that more decisive action is needed.

As the country grapples with these twin challenges many Nigerians are calling for a coordinated national response to avert a deepening crisis.
