The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has applauded President Bola Tinubu for appointing Senator Magnus Abe of Rivers State as Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.
Wike made the commendation on Monday during a courtesy visit to Ogu Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he described the nomination as a demonstration of the President’s goodwill and commitment to the state.
He also welcomed the appointment of Mr Kenneth Kobani, another Rivers indigene, as a non executive member of the board of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Abe served two terms as Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District. He is a former board member of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company and currently chairs the National Agency for the Great Green Wall.
Kobani previously served as Minister of State for Trade under former President Goodluck Jonathan and was later appointed Secretary to the Rivers State Government during Wike’s tenure as governor.
Wike described the appointments as historic, saying they reflected President Tinubu’s commitment to equity, inclusion and national balance.
“Since the creation of Rivers State, we have never witnessed this level of recognition,” he said.
“The number of appointments granted to Rivers sons and daughters under President Tinubu’s administration is unprecedented. At this moment, we have two key nominations from the President: Senator Magnus Abe and Kenneth Kobani.”
Wike added that the appointments underscored Rivers State’s increasing prominence and relevance in national governance under the current administration.
