The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a three-day ultimatum to contractors responsible for waste management in satellite towns, warning that failure to comply will result in contract termination.

Wike made the directive during an inspection of road projects in Karu, Bwari, Kubwa, and the Apo–Karshi corridor in Abuja on Friday. He also instructed the FCT Satellite Towns Development Department Coordinator, Mr. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, to ensure strict enforcement of the order.

Expressing concern over the mounting heaps of refuse along the Orozo–Apo–Karshi corridor, the minister warned: “Tell the contractor that by Monday or Tuesday, if I still see this refuse, his job will be terminated. This is unacceptable. It is embarrassing. These areas are no longer villages; development has taken over, and nobody will accept this.”

Assuring residents of a cleaner environment, Wike emphasized that all refuse, particularly in the satellite towns, would be promptly evacuated.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that on November 15, 2025, Wike had previously cautioned waste contractors against incompetence, political patronage, and making excuses. He noted that waste management remained a major challenge due to the “insincerity and lack of capacity” of previous service providers.

The minister reiterated: “Do your work, get your pay. If you don’t do your work, don’t expect payment. It will be terminated.”

Wike’s warning highlights the FCT administration’s focus on accountability and efficiency in public service delivery, particularly in areas experiencing rapid urban development. Residents have expressed optimism that stricter enforcement will improve sanitation and contribute to healthier, more orderly communities.
