The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Adeyemi, has clarified concerns surrounding the lengthy convoy that accompanied his recent homecoming event in Kogi State, attributing it to the presence of senior officers who attended the ceremony.

The explanation follows public reactions triggered by a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), which showcased scenes from the visit. The post highlighted the Controller-General’s activities, including courtesy visits and a grand reception in his hometown, where he received traditional blessings and commendations from stakeholders.

However, the images and videos circulating online drew criticism due to the large number of vehicles, motorcycles, and participants seen in the convoy, raising questions about the scale and necessity of the entourage.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Federal Fire Service addressed the concerns, emphasizing that the Controller-General himself travelled with only a limited official convoy.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Controller-General moved with just his official vehicle, a pilot vehicle, and essential security support,” the statement read.

The statement, signed by the National Public Relations Officer, P. O. Abraham, explained that the additional vehicles observed were those of Deputy Controllers-General (DCGs), Assistant Controllers-General (ACGs), and other senior personnel who attended the event.

According to the Service, the attendance of these officers formed part of the management team’s participation in the high-profile gathering. It added that their presence was deliberate, aimed at ensuring proper coordination and adequate security coverage for senior officials.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and responsible public engagement, noting that all official movements are guided by operational needs and safety considerations.

It further assured Nigerians that its activities adhere to best practices at all times.

The Controller-General also expressed appreciation to the Bunu Progressive Forum and the Kabba community for the warm reception and recognition accorded to him during the visit.

The clarification comes amid ongoing public scrutiny of official conduct and the use of government resources by public office holders.
