Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen delivered a match-winning performance for Galatasaray on Friday night, scoring twice in a dramatic 3–2 victory over Samsunspor at Rams Park, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen had gone without a goal in the Turkish Super Lig since 26 October, when he scored in a 2–1 win over Göztepe. However, he ended that run emphatically in front of the home supporters.
Osimhen at the double as Galatasaray edge thriller
Leroy Sané opened the scoring after just eight minutes, and set up Osimhen for Galatasaray’s second in the 24th minute. At that stage, the champions looked to be cruising, but Samsunspor steadied themselves and limited further damage before the break.
The visitors came out stronger in the second half and pulled one back through Anthony Musaba in the 56th minute. Galatasaray then grew increasingly uneasy, and their nerves were punished two minutes from time when Emre Kılınç struck the equaliser to make it 2–2.
Just when the match seemed destined to finish level, Osimhen produced a moment of pure class. In the 90th minute, he reacted quickest to Yunus Akgün’s knock-down and fired home with a stunning overhead kick into the top-right corner, leaving goalkeeper Okan Kocuk with no chance.
Samsunspor appealed for a late penalty, but the referee waved it away after a VAR review. Galatasaray held on to claim all three points.
Champions League test up next
Galatasaray now turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League, where they face Monaco on Tuesday. Osimhen has been decisive in Europe so far, Gala have won every Champions League match he has featured in. He missed the defeat to Royale Union SG but is fit and available for the crucial trip to Stade Louis II.
