Tensions have escalated globally following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, triggering sharp reactions from Gulf states and the wider international community.
U.S. President Donald Trump described the operation as a “major combat action” aimed at neutralizing threats posed by the Iranian regime. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes were intended to eliminate what he called an “existential threat” to Israel. Reports by Reuters, citing Israeli defense officials, indicated the joint operation had been planned for months.
Iran condemned the attacks as violations of international law and the UN Charter, vowing retaliation. Tehran subsequently launched missile strikes targeting Israel and U.S. military assets across the Gulf region.
Gulf nations reacted strongly. Qatar criticized missile strikes near Al Udeid Air Base as a breach of sovereignty and reserved the right to respond under international law. The United Arab Emirates condemned the attacks as a dangerous escalation, stating its air defense systems intercepted several projectiles. Bahrain described reported strikes near the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters as “treacherous,” while Kuwait called the attack a clear violation of international norms. Saudi Arabia also denounced Iran’s actions and warned of serious consequences.
Beyond the Gulf, the European Union urged restraint. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the situation deeply concerning and appealed for de-escalation. French President Emmanuel Macron requested an emergency UN Security Council meeting, warning of grave global implications.
As missile exchanges continue, international leaders are pressing for diplomacy to prevent a broader regional conflict.
