About the Author

Chief Gabe Okoye is a Nigerian–American civil engineer, politician, and cultural advocate. Born in Enugwu-Agidi, Nigeria, he relocated to the United States in 1981, beginning humbly as a security guard before pursuing education and becoming a civil engineer. He later founded Essex Geoscientist, established his family in Atlanta, and has since become a respected leader.

His political journey is equally remarkable. A Democrat, Okoye served as Chairman of the Gwinnett County Democratic Party in 2016, leading the party to record-breaking victories in 2018. His contributions were recognized when the Georgia House of Representatives declared November 6, 2019, as Gabe Okoye Leadership Day. In 2022, he was elected to the Georgia State Legislature, officially assuming office in January 2023. Today, he also serves as a Commissioner of Planning in Gwinnett County.
