The United States Ambassador to Nigeria has clarified recent visa restrictions affecting Nigerian applicants following widespread public concern.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja the Ambassador explained that the restrictions were not targeted at Nigerians but part of a broader global immigration review.

According to him the measures were introduced to address visa overstays and ensure compliance with immigration rules.

He stressed that Nigeria remains an important partner to the United States in trade education and security cooperation.

The Ambassador noted that thousands of Nigerians continue to receive US visas yearly particularly students professionals and business travelers.

He urged applicants to provide accurate documentation and comply fully with visa terms to avoid future complications.

The US mission also confirmed ongoing engagement with Nigerian authorities to address concerns and improve visa processing transparency.

Travel consultants have advised Nigerians to seek proper guidance before applying to avoid errors that could lead to denial.

The clarification has eased tensions among Nigerians who feared a blanket restriction on travel opportunities.
