The head coach of Udinese Calcio has expressed confidence in goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, praising the Nigerian international for showing steady improvement this season.
Speaking about the goalkeeper’s progress, Udinese manager Kosta Runjaic noted that Okoye has been working hard and gradually regaining confidence after earlier struggles. The coach explained that the shot-stopper’s mentality and commitment have been key factors in his recent performances for the Italian club.Â
Runjaic added that Okoye continues to develop with each game and remains an important part of Udinese’s plans. According to him, the goalkeeper has demonstrated resilience and determination despite facing criticism earlier in the campaign.Â
The positive remarks could be encouraging news for Eric Chelle, who has been assessing Nigeria’s goalkeeping options for upcoming international fixtures.
Okoye, who currently plays his club football in Italy, has faced strong competition for the number-one spot in the Nigeria national football team setup in recent months. However, improved performances at club level could strengthen his chances of returning to the national team.Â
The 26-year-old goalkeeper joined Udinese after spells in the Netherlands and England and has continued to fight for consistency as he seeks to re-establish himself among Nigeria’s top goalkeeping choices.
