Factional National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has confirmed that he has filed an appeal and an application for a stay of execution against a bench warrant issued for his arrest by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The development comes amid ongoing legal proceedings linked to a one-count charge alleging that Turaki provided false information to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in a petition he submitted in 2022.

The bench warrant was issued by Justice Peter Kekemeke following Turaki’s failure to appear in court when the case was scheduled. In a statement released through his Principal Private Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, Turaki assured the public that his legal team had acted swiftly to file an appeal and a stay of execution, while also seeking to have the charge quashed.

“The warrant was granted because of his absence in court today when the case was called. The petition was written in 2022, and due to his sudden hospital visitation, he was unable to attend,” the statement read.

Turaki’s statement emphasized that his legal representatives are taking all necessary steps to ensure that the case proceeds in accordance with the law, while also protecting his rights and interests. The application to quash the charge, his team noted, is a procedural step that does not require his physical presence in court.

He further urged calm and restraint among party members, supporters, and the general public, stressing the importance of allowing due process to take its course. According to Turaki, the legal process should be respected, and all issues should be resolved through proper judicial channels without resorting to speculation or unrest.

This action comes at a time when factional tensions within the PDP remain high, and the development is expected to draw significant attention from both the political class and the public. Turaki’s legal team is confident that the appeal and related applications will be fairly considered by the court, and they continue to engage in all necessary legal maneuvers to safeguard his position and reputation.

Through the statement, Turaki reiterated his commitment to abiding by legal procedures while urging supporters to remain patient and composed as the matter unfolds in the judicial system.
