U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening to target key oil infrastructure and power facilities if a deal to end the ongoing conflict is not reached soon.
In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the United States is currently engaged in “serious discussions” with what he described as a “more reasonable regime” in Tehran. Despite noting progress in negotiations, he warned of severe consequences if talks collapse.
According to him, failure to secure an agreement—and reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz for global trade—could lead to the destruction of Iran’s major assets. He specifically mentioned Kharg Island, a critical oil export hub, along with oil wells, electric power plants, and possibly desalination facilities, noting that these targets had not yet been struck.
The statement marks a shift from his earlier tone, where he had suggested that a deal could be imminent. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump indicated that recent developments in the conflict, involving Israel, had significantly altered Iran’s leadership structure.
He claimed that the United States had effectively achieved “regime change,” citing the deaths of several Iranian leaders during the conflict. Trump described the emerging leadership as more pragmatic and open to negotiation.
Expressing cautious optimism, he added that a deal with Iran could be reached within a short timeframe.
The development underscores rising tensions in the region, with global attention focused on the outcome of negotiations and the potential implications for energy security and international stability.
