United States President Donald Trump has declined to give a direct answer on whether he would seek congressional approval before authorising potential land strikes in Venezuela.

The question was raised during an executive order signing at the White House, amid growing speculation about Washington’s posture toward the Venezuelan government. Trump responded by emphasising the need to protect American interests and maintain strategic flexibility.

His remarks have reignited debate over presidential war powers and the role of Congress in authorising military action. Critics argue that bypassing Congress undermines democratic oversight, while supporters insist the President must retain the authority to act swiftly in matters of national security.

The comments come amid heightened tensions in the region and continued international attention on United States foreign policy in Latin America.
