President Donald Trump has described the newly passed short-term funding bill ending the United States’ longest government shutdown as a “major victory” for the nation and his administration.
The Senate approved the measure on Monday with a 60–40 vote, sending it to the Republican-controlled House for final approval. The bill will fund federal agencies through late January 2026, guarantee back pay for furloughed employees, and prevent mass layoffs across the federal workforce during this period.
While Trump praised the deal as a political and administrative success, some Democrats criticized it for failing to extend enhanced health-insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, and for not fully meeting requested funding levels for several agencies.
Trump commended congressional leaders for their efforts in reaching the compromise and stressed that reopening the government will help restore public confidence. Lawmakers now face the task of quickly passing the bill in the House while addressing remaining policy concerns before year-end.
