Nigerian Army troops have rescued 86 kidnapped victims and successfully repelled a terrorist ambush in Borno State, the epicenter of the country’s prolonged insurgency.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed that the operation was carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai during intensified clearance missions across the state’s volatile regions.
According to the statement, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding forest. All rescued persons — including women and children are currently receiving medical attention and undergoing debriefing at a military facility.
Maj. Gen. Nwachukwu added that several insurgents were neutralized, while weapons and logistics items were recovered from the scene. He reaffirmed the army’s commitment to maintaining security and restoring peace across the North-East.
Security analysts have commended the operation as a major boost to the ongoing counterterrorism campaign, urging continued intelligence collaboration between the military and local communities.
