Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have neutralised five suspected terrorists and arrested a suspected kidnapper during coordinated security operations across Plateau State.

The operations, carried out in collaboration with local vigilantes, targeted criminal hideouts and insurgent routes in Wase, Qua’an Pan, and Shendam Local Government Areas.

In a statement issued by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, troops conducted intensive clearance operations on Saturday in Babangida, Adua, and Bokayi villages within the Dutsen Zaki forest. While patrolling the Babangida–Adua road, security forces encountered armed terrorists, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The troops overpowered the attackers, killing two suspects on the spot, while others fled into the forest with gunshot wounds. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a locally made firearm, a belt containing 105 rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammunition, 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a cutlass.

In a separate operation on Sunday, troops acting on credible intelligence intercepted four suspected terrorists in Namu District of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area at about 7:45 a.m. The suspects were found with 100 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

However, while troops attempted to dismantle their hideout, they came under heavy fire from other members of the group. In the ensuing chaos, three of the arrested suspects were reportedly killed by their fleeing associates during an attempted escape.

Later that morning, at about 9:35 a.m., troops, working with local residents, apprehended a suspected kidnapper at Gidan Mangoro village in Shendam Local Government Area. The suspect is believed to be linked to a kidnapping incident that occurred in the area on April 3, 2026, and is currently in custody for further investigation.

Military authorities said the operations demonstrate the ongoing commitment of the Nigerian Army and its partners to restoring peace and stability in Plateau State. They also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as clearance operations continue across affected areas.
