Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled a Boko Haram ambush in Borno State, killing ten terrorists, including two senior commanders identified as Basulhu and Ubaida, along the Sambisa Forest and Mandara Mountains axis.
The terrorists were neutralised on Thursday after attempting a coordinated ambush using roadside improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and heavy gunfire. However, troops responded swiftly with superior firepower, forcing the insurgents into disarray.
Confirming the operation in a statement, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said troops operating under Sector 1 and Operation Desert Sanity V delivered a decisive blow to Boko Haram and ISWAP elements on January 22, 2026.
According to him, a follow-up exploitation of the area led to the recovery of several weapons and logistics items, including three AK-47 rifles, one pump-action rifle, five motorcycles, two hand grenades, two Baofeng radios, 12 AK-47 magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade charger, detonation cords, batteries, bandoliers, camel bags, iron bars, and other IED-making materials.
In a related operation, troops of Sector 1 also engaged terrorists around the Malkube area, neutralising two insurgents and recovering additional rifles, ammunition, and communication equipment without recording any casualties among military personnel.
Earlier the same day, another battle group intercepted Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters attempting to infiltrate Nigeria from Cameroon near Galakura, forcing them to retreat.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba said sustained operations across the North East have continued to deny terrorists freedom of movement. He added that troop morale remains high, while the military high command has commended personnel for their gallantry and urged them to maintain operational momentum
