Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Operation “IGBO IDANU,” have captured a suspected terrorists’ camp in a forested area of Kogi State, recovering ammunition and explosives after a challenging advance through difficult terrain.
A military source disclosed that the operation was carried out on February 10 by a combined combat team that moved from a harbour location at Batijjo’s Camp toward another hideout believed to be linked to a terror kingpin operating within the axis.
According to the source, the troops encountered dense forest, felled trees, and multiple natural obstacles that significantly slowed their progress. Soldiers reportedly used chainsaws to clear pathways while maintaining tactical formation. The team also navigated three riverine crossings during the advance.
The final river line near an enclave associated with suspected bandit leaders, including Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu, proved impassable due to marshy sand-and-clay conditions. Undeterred, the troops dismounted and advanced approximately 1.5 kilometres on foot toward the objective, under the leadership of Brigade Commander Brigadier-General KU Sidi.
Upon arrival, the camp was found deserted, suggesting the occupants had fled before the troops’ approach. A comprehensive search of the site led to the recovery of eight boxes of 7.62 x 54mm linked ammunition, each containing 250-round bandoliers, as well as a box of high-velocity grenades.
The troops subsequently destroyed the camp to prevent its future use as a logistics and staging base for criminal elements before withdrawing to their harbour position.
Military sources indicated that troop morale remains high as clearance operations continue in the area to dismantle remaining threats.
