The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a traditional ruler, Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamọ of Agamọ community in Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.

The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, and made available to journalists in Akure. According to the police, the attack occurred on Wednesday at about 7:10 p.m.

DSP Jimoh explained that the police received a distress report around 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu. The report indicated that about six armed men stormed the monarch’s residence, forcibly abducted him from his compound, and fled the area.

He added that the traditional ruler was later discovered a few metres away from his home with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area immediately mobilised officers, alongside tactical teams from the command, to respond to the incident. Security efforts were carried out in collaboration with local security groups, including Atuluse Security, local hunters, and operatives of Amotekun, who jointly combed nearby bushes and surrounding communities in an effort to apprehend the attackers.

DSP Jimoh stated that monitoring and surveillance have since been intensified across the area to ensure the safety of residents and to prevent any further breakdown of law and order. He assured the public that the police are determined to track down and arrest those responsible for what he described as a heinous act.

The police spokesperson further appealed to members of the public with credible and actionable information to report to the nearest police station or contact the command to assist ongoing investigations.
