President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the tragic death of Major General A.A. Uba, describing the developments as “heart-breaking setbacks for the nation.”

In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the President said he was “personally depressed and troubled” by the resurgence of attacks targeting vulnerable children and security personnel.

Tinubu condemned the abduction of schoolgirls from a government school in Kebbi, calling it “a cruel assault on the nation’s conscience.” He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing the release of the victims, directing security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to rescue the girls safely and dismantle the criminal networks behind the attack.

On the death of Major General Uba, who reportedly died while leading military operations in the North-West, President Tinubu paid glowing tribute to the late officer, praising his courage, professionalism, and sacrifice.

“General Uba served this nation with honour and gave his life in defence of our people. His death is a painful reminder of the immense sacrifices made daily by our armed forces,” the statement read.

The President extended condolences to the families of the abducted schoolgirls, the Nigerian Army, and the family of the fallen general, assuring them of the government’s unwavering support.

Tinubu reiterated that the fight against banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism would be intensified, noting that Nigerians deserve peace and security in every community across the country.

Security operations have since been reinforced in affected areas as search-and-rescue efforts continue.
