President Bola Tinubu has directed the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political support group aligned with his administration, to distribute rice across Nigeria in support of citizens observing Ramadan and Lent.
The directive was disclosed on Saturday by the Director-General of the group and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, in a statement explaining the purpose of the initiative.
According to the statement, the exercise is intended to strengthen national unity and demonstrate compassion during a period of deep spiritual reflection for both Muslims and Christians.
Uzodinma said the initiative reflects the President’s commitment to unity, empathy, and support for citizens during important religious observances.
“Ramadan and Lent are seasons that remind us of sacrifice, charity and care for one another,” he said.
“Through this distribution, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will ensure that families across Nigeria feel the spirit of togetherness during this sacred period.”
He explained that the group would coordinate the exercise through its nationwide grassroots network to ensure that families across the country benefit from the intervention during the holy season when both Muslims and Christians are observing fasts.
The statement noted that the distribution would reach communities across different parts of the country, covering both Christian and Muslim populations.
A similar initiative was carried out during the Christmas period last year when rice was distributed to support Nigerians during the festive season, reflecting the administration’s continued efforts to assist citizens during significant religious and cultural periods.
The latest intervention, according to the statement, highlights the President’s focus on inclusivity and national unity by supporting Nigerians regardless of religious affiliation during Ramadan and Lent.
