President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the names of sixty five nominees to the Senate for confirmation as ambassadors and high commissioners, including former Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, and veteran diplomat, Sulu Gambari.
The request was read on Thursday by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.
According to the letter, the list consists of thirty four career ambassadors and high commissioners and thirty one non career ambassadors and high commissioners, bringing the total number of nominees to sixty five.
Among the notable career nominees are Sulu Gambari Olatunde Ahmed from Kwara State and Segun Ige from Edo State.
Prominent non career nominees include former Adamawa lawmaker, Senator Folasade Grace Bent; former Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Solomon Ita Enang from Akwa Ibom State; and businessman and politician, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from Ondo State.
Tinubu also nominated Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State, and retired Major General Abdulrahman Dambazau, who previously served as Minister of Interior and Chief of Army Staff.
Their names were not included in the earlier batch of ambassadorial nominees released by the Presidency.
