President Bola Tinubu has convened a high level meeting with Nigeria’s top security chiefs and summoned Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang over the escalating security crisis in the state. Security chiefs refer to the heads of the armed forces, police and intelligence agencies responsible for national security.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, focused on the recent surge in violence in Plateau State, where communities have experienced deadly attacks and displacement. Tinubu reportedly demanded comprehensive briefings from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other security heads.

Officials said the President expressed deep concern over the persistence of violence despite ongoing military operations. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among security agencies and state authorities to restore peace and prevent further loss of lives.

Governor Mutfwang’s summons is viewed as part of efforts to align state level responses with federal strategies. Plateau State has long been a hotspot for communal conflicts, often linked to disputes over land, resources and identity.

Observers note that the complexity of the crisis requires more than military intervention, including dialogue, community engagement and socio economic reforms.

Stakeholders have called for urgent and decisive action, urging the government to address both immediate security threats and underlying causes of conflict.

Security experts stress the importance of intelligence gathering, early warning systems and collaboration with local communities in tackling such crises.

The development underscores the ongoing challenges facing Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly in regions prone to recurring violence.

Analysts believe that the outcome of the meeting will play a critical role in shaping the government’s approach to internal security and its ability to respond effectively to emerging threats.
