Speculation is intensifying within political circles that President Bola Tinubu may consider prominent figures including former military leader Ibrahim Babangida Musa Bishop Matthew Kukah and two other senior national figures as potential running mates ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Sources within ruling party circles say consultations and internal assessments are already underway despite the election being two years away. The discussions reflect strategic calculations around regional balance religious representation and national appeal.

Bishop Kukah is widely respected for his moral voice and advocacy for peace while Musa is seen as a symbol of national unity with military and administrative experience. Political analysts say such names signal an attempt to broaden the ticket beyond conventional party politics.

Party officials have however cautioned that no final decision has been made and that speculation should be treated with restraint. They emphasised that Tinubu’s priority remains governance and economic reforms.

Nevertheless the emerging conversation highlights early political positioning as parties and power blocs begin aligning ahead of the next electoral cycle.
