President Bola Tinubu has declared that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are the recognised leaders of the party in their respective states across the federation.
The President made the declaration at the official reception held in honour of Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. The event took place in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
Tinubu, who was represented at the ceremony by Vice President Kashim Shettima, stated that by virtue of Governor Kefas’s defection to the ruling party, he automatically assumes the position of APC leader in Taraba State. He explained that the party’s structure recognises sitting governors as its highest-ranking leaders at the state level.
According to the President, the APC remains committed to strengthening internal cohesion and ensuring effective leadership at all levels. He assured the Taraba State governor of the full support of the Federal Government and the national leadership of the party in his efforts to deliver good governance and development to the people of the state.
Tinubu commended Governor Kefas for what he described as deliberate efforts to promote unity and inclusiveness in Taraba State, noting that the governor has taken steps to harmonise the state’s diverse ethnic and religious groups in pursuit of peace and progress.
“I urge all stakeholders in Taraba State to rally behind the governor and support him to succeed in his developmental agenda,” the President said.
He expressed satisfaction with the defection of a governor from the North-East geopolitical zone to the APC, describing it as a boost for the party’s presence in the region. Tinubu also expressed hope that other states in the zone, particularly Adamawa and Bauchi, would align with the ruling party at the centre.
The President concluded by reiterating the APC’s commitment to national unity, political inclusiveness, and sustained development across all states of the federation.
