KATSINA — At least three people have been killed and several security outposts destroyed in the Sabuwar Anguwa area of Katsina metropolis following a police operation on a suspected drug hideout.
The unrest began late on Friday, 27 December 2025, when a police surveillance team attempted to apprehend Uzairu Abubakar, also known as “Kuda,” a suspected notorious drug dealer.
Friday Night Raid
Acting on credible intelligence, the Central Market Surveillance Team raided a hideout in Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters at around 10:00 pm. Officers reportedly recovered Indian hemp, Pregabalin tablets, and “Colorado” from the premises.
During the arrest attempt, Uzairu allegedly resisted and raised an alarm, mobilising members of his gang and local “Kauraye” miscreants, who attacked the officers and stoned their undercover vehicle.
In the ensuing confrontation, Uzairu is said to have stabbed ASP Ibrahim Yusuf, the team’s second-in-command, in the neck. During a struggle for the officer’s rifle, a gunshot discharged, fatally wounding Uzairu, who was later confirmed dead at Katsina General Hospital.
Escalation During Funeral Procession
The situation escalated further on Sunday, 28 December, during Uzairu’s funeral procession.

Outposts Attacked: A group of angry youths reportedly hijacked the funeral, setting fire to a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) outpost at Koraman Nayalli and attempting to burn a nearby police facility.
Authorities have since deployed additional security personnel to restore order. Investigations into the violence and attacks on security facilities are ongoing.
