Police in Ondo State have arrested six suspected fake pastors allegedly involved in a miracle scam targeting unsuspecting members of the public in Idanre. The suspects—Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola—reportedly posed as religious leaders, staging fake miracles and spiritual interventions to gain the trust of victims.
They are accused of exploiting individuals’ faith and vulnerabilities by promising divine solutions to financial, health, and personal problems, only to defraud them through various schemes.
Police spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi stated that the arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation by the Command’s Tactical Teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers (CSOs). Abayomi explained that during interrogation, it was revealed the suspects operated in a coordinated manner, assigning roles to create a convincing façade of legitimacy. He added that investigations are ongoing to determine the total number of victims, the financial magnitude of the fraud, and identify other collaborators who may still be at large.
All suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The police urged members of the public to exercise caution, verify religious claims, be wary of suspicious financial demands, and report dubious activities to the nearest station. Abayomi emphasised that the Command remains committed to ridding Ondo State of criminal elements, stating, “Through sustained intelligence gathering, community partnership, and strategic operations, we will continue to ensure the safety and protection of lives and property across the state.”
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement to protect citizens from fraudulent religious activities and reinforce the importance of vigilance when confronted with claims of miracles or divine intervention.
