The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has launched a full-scale investigation into allegations of child molestation and abuse at an undisclosed daycare facility in Lagos.

The directive was issued by the agency’s Director-General, Binta Adamu Bello, following renewed public concern sparked by resurfaced social media posts allegedly linked to popular Nigerian singer Simi.

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, NAPTIP confirmed that its operatives had been ordered to commence an immediate probe based on “suggestive online posts” pointing to possible abuse within a daycare setting.

While appreciating public concern, the agency emphasized that all its official communication platforms remain open to receive complaints from anyone who may have experienced abuse or has credible information regarding the allegations.

“NAPTIP has launched a full investigation into allegations of child abuse at a Lagos daycare facility. Anyone with useful information is urged to come forward and report through our official channels. Child protection remains our priority,” the statement noted.

The agency’s intervention follows a similar move by the Lagos State Government. The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, disclosed during an interview on Channels Television that the matter had been referred to the Commissioner of Police for preliminary investigation.

The controversy arose after screenshots of tweets from 2012 and 2013, allegedly authored by Simi, resurfaced online and triggered widespread reactions.

Simi has since responded, stating that the old posts were misconstrued and unrelated to any improper conduct.

Authorities have assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and guided by due process to establish the facts and ensure accountability where necessary.
