The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Senator Fatimat Raji-Rasaki, former First Lady of Ogun, Ondo, and Lagos states, on her 70th birthday anniversary.
Senator Raji-Rasaki, wife of retired Brigadier-General Raji Rasaki, will turn 70 on Tuesday, January 13. Governor Sanwo-Olu also felicitated with the couple on their 50th wedding anniversary, describing five decades of marriage as a milestone worth celebrating.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor praised Senator Raji-Rasaki for her advocacy on gender issues, women’s empowerment, and grassroots development, as well as her contributions to policymaking during her tenure in the National Assembly.
The statement read in part: “On behalf of my wife, Ibijoke, the government and the people of Lagos State, I heartily congratulate Senator Fatimat Raji-Rasaki on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee birthday and 50th Wedding Anniversary. Her dedication to humanitarian services, community development, and empowerment programmes for widows, students, and local investors has positively impacted lives across the country.
“As a federal lawmaker representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, she sponsored several key bills, including the Federal Competitions and Consumer Protection Bill and amendments to the Companies and Allied Matters Act. We pray that God will continue to grant her health, joy, and strength to serve humanity, and we congratulate Brigadier-General Raji Rasaki for sharing this remarkable journey with his invaluable wife.”
Senator Raji-Rasaki also served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment and remains widely recognized for her contributions to national development and women’s empowerment.
