Rotary International has called on Nigerians to place peace, tolerance, and national unity above political and ethnic divisions as the country navigates economic and security challenges. The appeal was made during a civic engagement forum organised by Rotary leaders, who stressed that sustainable development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of conflict and mistrust.

Representatives of the service organisation noted that Nigeria diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a source of division. They urged citizens, community leaders, and policymakers to promote dialogue, mutual respect, and collaborative problem solving. According to Rotary officials, peace building must begin at the grassroots level through community engagement, youth empowerment, and education.

The organisation highlighted its ongoing interventions in health, education, and conflict resolution across various states. Rotary leaders said their peace initiatives include mediation programmes, school based tolerance campaigns, and partnerships with local authorities to prevent communal clashes.

Security analysts agree that non state actors and civic groups have a critical role in complementing government efforts. They argue that long term stability depends not only on military responses but also on inclusive social frameworks that address grievances and promote shared responsibility.

Rotary International encouraged political actors to exercise restraint in public rhetoric, particularly as preparations gradually intensify ahead of future elections. The group warned that inflammatory statements could deepen divisions and undermine national cohesion.

Community development experts say such appeals are timely given rising concerns about insecurity and economic pressures. They emphasise that peace building requires consistent engagement rather than episodic campaigns.

Rotary reaffirmed its commitment to service above self, urging Nigerians to actively participate in initiatives that strengthen unity and foster trust across communities.
