The Rivers State Police Command has rejected reports of an alleged herdsmen invasion and attacks on local communities, calling the claims entirely false. The clarification comes after a video circulated on social media claimed that herders were repelled by Ijaw youths in an unspecified area of the state.
Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko said the video was fabricated by individuals seeking to create panic and disrupt the peace in Rivers State. She urged residents to ignore such content and refrain from sharing unverified information that could damage the state’s reputation.
Iringe-Koko emphasised that there have been no incidents of herders attacking any part of Rivers State. She described the viral report as misleading and intended to incite fear among the public. The police, working alongside other security agencies, remain committed to safeguarding lives, protecting property, and maintaining law and order throughout the state.
“Security measures, including patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads, are fully operational,” she said. The spokesperson added that under the leadership of CP Olugbenga Adepoju, the command is committed to transparent and responsible policing.
Residents have been advised to remain calm, exercise caution, and confirm the authenticity of information through official channels before sharing. Authorities reiterated that spreading false narratives undermines peace and stability and warned that such actions would not be tolerated.
