Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has playfully demanded that Fulham captain Tom Cairney return £600 he allegedly lent him, Soccernet.ng reports.

On Friday, Fulham confirmed that Cairney had agreed to extend his stay at Craven Cottage, putting to rest speculation over his future.

The 35-year-old Scotsman, who joined the Cottagers from Blackburn Rovers in 2015, is widely regarded as a club legend. With his previous contract set to expire at the end of the season, there had been rumours Fulham might part ways in favour of younger players. However, Cairney has now signed an extension keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

Bassey’s Lighthearted Reaction

Known for his playful social media presence, Bassey couldn’t resist teasing his captain. Commenting on Fulham’s announcement, the Nigerian defender wrote:
“Ayy, my £600 please send it back. I thought you were going to be jobless in July!”

The joke references a supposed parting gift Bassey gave Cairney, anticipating that the midfielder would be out of contract in the summer.

Bassey is part of Fulham’s lively Nigerian contingent, alongside Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi, known for their humour and camaraderie in the dressing room. His banter with Cairney highlights the strong team spirit as the squad approaches the crucial stages of the season.
