The Presidency, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA), has announced the maiden “Abuja Dialogue on Youth Leadership Development,” scheduled for Monday, April 13, 2026. At a press conference held in Abuja on Friday, April 10, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, disclosed that the initiative is designed to transition youth inclusion from “Rhetorical Commitments” to a structured, institutionalized framework. The dialogue, themed “Scaling Excellence: Youth Leadership as Strategic Infrastructure for National Transformation,” aims to establish a sustainable pipeline for grooming the next generation of Nigerian public servants and political leaders.

Senator Ibrahim Hadejia emphasized that the Office of the Vice President recognizes that “building leadership at scale” requires deliberate collaboration with specialized institutions. He noted that the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy has already established a successful model in Lagos for mainstreaming human capital development, and the Presidency intends to leverage this experience to create a national blueprint. The dialogue will bring together key stakeholders from the private sector, international development agencies, and the youth community to brainstorm on how to move “Youth Initiatives” from being merely palliative to being systematic and results-driven. Hadejia argued that “Preparation, not just Inclusion,” is the key to ensuring that young Nigerians can contribute meaningfully to governance and national development.

The Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, thanked the Presidency for the partnership, describing the dialogue as a “Strategic Platform” for a paradigm shift. She stressed that Nigeria must begin to treat “Youth Leadership Development” with the same urgency it accords to physical infrastructure like roads and bridges. Agbaje-Okunade explained that the academy was founded on the principles of the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, emphasizing “Selfless Service and Competence.” She noted that the Abuja Dialogue would focus on equipping change-driven individuals with the practical capacity to navigate real-world governance contexts, ensuring they are prepared for the “High Stakes of Public Office.”

Public policy analysts suggest that the “Presidency-LJLA Partnership” is a timely response to the growing demand for “Generational Shift” in Nigerian politics. Experts observe that while many young Nigerians are politically active on social media, there is a significant “Competence Gap” in understanding the administrative complexities of the civil service and legislative processes. Analysts argue that by institutionalizing a “Leadership Pipeline,” the government is de-risking the future of governance. They suggest that the dialogue should lead to the establishment of “Regional Leadership Hubs” that can provide structured training and mentorship to young Nigerians across all 36 states, rather than concentrating opportunities in the capital.

The broader implications of this dialogue point toward a “Long-Term Investment in National Stability.” As Nigeria faces complex socio-economic challenges, the quality of its future leadership will be the ultimate determinant of its success. The initiative signals a “Strategic Priority” for the Tinubu-led administration to empower the youth demographic through skill-based preparation rather than political patronage. For the participants and the wider youth population, the Abuja Dialogue represents a “Gateway to Governance” that prioritizes merit and discipline. As the event kicks off on Monday, the focus remains on how the outcomes will be integrated into the national “Human Capital Development” agenda to ensure a more resilient and visionary leadership for the country.
