The Kaduna State Police Command has clarified that the recent explosion at Mando Motor Park was not a bomb blast but a minor incident involving a gas-powered vehicle.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mansir Hassan, stated in a Sunday briefing that the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. at the premises of Silver Luxury Travel a bus company operating at Mando Garage in Kaduna. Officers were promptly dispatched to the scene following reports of a loud sound.

Hassan explained that preliminary investigations indicated the explosion involved a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered luxury bus owned by the company. The vehicle reportedly exploded due to overfilling of its gas tank. He confirmed that the bus was safely evacuated from the area and that security personnel secured the surroundings to prevent further risk.

He emphasised that no casualties or property damage were recorded and that normal activities at the motor park have since resumed. The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

As a precautionary measure, operatives from the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were deployed to the scene. Hassan further urged the public to verify information before sharing updates on social media or other platforms, particularly regarding security incidents, to avoid unnecessary panic or misinformation.

The police confirmed that all safety protocols were observed during the evacuation and that there is no ongoing threat to residents or commuters in the area. Authorities have also advised operators of CNG-powered vehicles to adhere strictly to safety regulations, including proper refilling procedures, to mitigate risks associated with gas-powered transport.

This clarification comes amid growing public concern following initial reports of the explosion, which had sparked speculation about a possible security threat. Authorities have reassured the community that the incident was an accident and not linked to any criminal activity.
