Operatives of the Borno State Police Command have recovered 912 rounds of B32 API type 7.62 by 51mm ammunition concealed in the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the development on Sunday, stating that the recovered ammunition had been secured and that investigations were ongoing to determine its source and intended use.
According to him, the discovery was made on January 4, 2026, at about 2 pm, following credible intelligence received by the command.
Daso said the Divisional Police Officer of Lamisula Division led a team of operatives to the location, where the hidden cache was uncovered.
He added that the Department of Explosive Ordnance Disposal was immediately deployed to the scene in line with standard operational procedures, and the area was cordoned off to ensure public safety.
A total of 912 rounds of the ammunition were safely recovered.
“The exhibits have been secured, while investigations are ongoing to trace the source and intended use of the ammunition, as well as to apprehend those responsible,” he said.
Daso noted that the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, commended members of the public for their timely information and urged residents to continue supporting the police by reporting suspicious movements or activities within their communities.
