The Oyo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a 29-year-old man, Quadri Mohammed, who is suspected of killing his girlfriend, Precious Mogaji, in Ibadan.

The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, noting that an investigation had already commenced to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

According to the police, the incident was first reported by a concerned resident who discovered the victim lying motionless at the entrance of her boyfriend’s apartment.

Ayanlade explained that the report reached the police around 12:05 a.m., prompting officers from the Ojoo Police Division to immediately respond. The patrol team and the division’s incident duty officer were dispatched to the location to assess the situation.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers reportedly found the body of the victim lying on the floor at the doorway of the suspect’s room.

“The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged killing of a 26-year-old woman identified as Precious Mogaji,” Ayanlade stated.

He clarified that the incident occurred in the Oguntula area of Ojoo in Ibadan, contradicting earlier reports circulating on social media that claimed the crime took place in the Akobo area of the city.

According to the police spokesperson, some online reports had incorrectly suggested that the incident involved a husband attempting to move his wife’s body into a vehicle in Akobo. He stressed that such claims were inaccurate and not connected to the ongoing investigation.

Police officers at the scene documented the area and carried out a preliminary examination of the victim’s body as part of standard investigative procedures. Photographs were also taken for evidentiary purposes.

The body was subsequently transported to a hospital, where it was deposited in the morgue pending an autopsy that will determine the exact cause of death.

During the course of the investigation, authorities discovered that the prime suspect, Quadri Mohammed, had fled the residence and his whereabouts remain unknown.

The police said efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect while the investigation continues. They also urged members of the public with useful information to report to the nearest police station or contact the Oyo State Police Command.
